Therapist Credentialing

SLP Private Practice Medicare ApplicationThe process of becoming credentialed can be confusing, complicated, and lengthy. There is no such thing as universal credentialing, or one stop shopping to have all your professional credentials verified and processed so that practice in all venues, with all third party payers is enabled. Our professionals will assist you in preparing your documenation and information for credentialing with Medicare and third party payers.

Medicare Enrollment

The process of obtaining supplier status with Medicare as a Speech-Language Pathologist begins with an application for an NPI number, proceeds with the appropriate official Medical 855 form, and may involve the utilization of the new Medicare PECOS system. If your private practice is going to involve other speech-language pathologists in private practice (a good way to share space and fixed costs) you may also consider forming a group practice.

Your initial application with Medicare must include your SLP credentials, as well as any local and regional occupational licenses that may be required. The paper process involves up to 45 days with a "clean" application, and if you choose the internet PECOS application option, it can take as few as 12-15 days (as many of the Medicare Part B Carriers are reporting). CMS provides a wealth of Medicare enrollment information on their website, but there is likely more information on the website of the Part B carrier that the infomration will be submitted to. While CMS does use a universal application, the way that your application is processed (including the time frames) is directed by your local Part B carrier.
